Beneficiary: Christel House School
Dell Investment: R750 000 worth of Dell Equipment
In 2012, Dell took technology and learning to the next level at
Christel House South Africa, by supplying the school with 20
desktop computers, a printer, two Latitude Laptops, 32 16GB flash
drives and two Flip cameras. In addition, Dell is also investing in
supplementary training for teachers.
By providing access to technology to Christel House learners, we
believe we are helping the school in their commitment to molding
the future leaders of our country.
In the words of Stewart van Graan, General Manager of Dell Africa:
“It is only through improving social conditions that business
conditions can be improved and education is an essential tool to
drive this transformation”.
Beneficiary: SHAWCO
Dell Investment: Funds for Equipment and Fun Day
SHAWCO, the Students Health and Welfare Centres Organisation,
is a dynamic, innovative and passionate student-run NGO based at
the University of Cape Town (UCT), constantly striving to improve
the quality of life for individuals in developing communities within
the Cape Metropolitan area. In 2012, Dell invested equipment and
software to be used in both their Mannenberg and Khayelitsha labs.
SHAWCO is also responsible for an annual community Fun Day
for the children enrolled in their programs. And Dell was fortunate
enough to be a sponsor for the 2012 Fun Day which took place at
the SHAWCO/Dell Khayelitsha lab and adjoining sporting grounds.
Sci-Bono Discovery Centre hosted their annual ICT week in August.
The aim of the week was to get industry experts to give talks on their
experiences in technology-related fields to high school students
from around Gauteng. Two Dell employees, Santosh Singh and
Daniel Texeira, did us particularly proud by presenting to more than
200 students. Santosh gave an insightful talk about “Demystifying
the Computer Technology Industry”, while Daniel gave a wonderful
speech about his “Journey in the ICT industry”. We received positive
feedback not only from Sci-Bono on the quality of both Dell speakers,
but also from the students who attended these sessions!
