Beneficiary: Mr Price
CompStart Challenge
Dell Investment: 200 Desktops
Helping to bridge the digital divide that exists in our country
results in learners being computer literate and ready for the
job market and the world. Over the past five years, Dell has
invested in computers in schools in KZN as part of the Mr
Price Comrades and Mr Price CompStart initiatives, an annual
project which sponsors 10 schools with 20 Dell computers,
including lab equipment.
This is South Africa’s single largest digital program with over
800 new PC’s donated to date. To ensure on-going youth
involvement and development, each school is tasked to brief
their learners on putting together a Power Point presentation
on a contemporary topic. This computer-based competition
is aimed at stimulating creative thinking and encouraging
research and reading.
Beneficiary: Cape Town and
JHB Beneficiary Cocktail Event
Each year we host a cocktail function for our
Johannesburg and Cape Town Dell Development Fund
beneficiaries. The Cape Town function was hosted at
TSiBA and the Johannesburg function at Sci-Bono –
both long-standing recipients of our funding. Everyone
was given a chance to network and learn from one
another, resulting in many beneficiaries leaving with
new ideas and possible business opportunities.
Beneficiary: Dell JHB Community Day
Dell Investment: Funds for refurbishing the
Child Welfare Head Office
Helping to bridge the digital divide that exists in our
country results in learners being computer literate and
ready for the world. As part of our annual Community
Day, our staff decided to spend a morning painting
Child Welfare’s head office in Edenvale. The team was
hard at work scraping, cleaning and preparing the walls
which then received a refreshing new coat of paint.
Beneficiary: Dell CT Community Day
Dell Investment: Funds for Career Packs
Dell Cape Town spent their Community Day hosting
a Career Day for the Grade 11 and 12 students from
Christel House School. Each staff member was
given the opportunity to share their life journey with
students, with all attendees enjoying a morning of
interactive discussions and debates.
Dell Powering the Possible
Dell’s Powering the Possible program and initiatives are
aimed at addressing the growing need to equip young
adults with both life and educational skills through a
combination of Dell donated technology, expertise and
employee volunteerism. It provides the opportunities
for young people to discover new possibilities, change
their lives and unleash their true potential, giving them
a future to look forward to.
Beneficiary: Sci-Bono
Discovery Centre
Dell Investment: R580 000 worth
of ICT Equipment
For the past six years, Dell South Africa has been
investing in the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in
Newtown. In 2012, we donated funds and equipment
to the centre’s Unemployed Youth Program and for
the further expansion of the Dell ICT lab. This training
centre is the only facility available to all public school
teachers and it plays an important role in ensuring that
South African teachers gain the ICT skills necessary for
professional educators.
