Dell Provides an ICT training centre for South Africa's educators PDF Print E-mail

Dell South Africa in collaboration with Dell’s global Youth Connect Program has donated technology to the value of R1.1 million to the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, the largest science centre in southern Africa.
Dell South Africa invests a percentage of every Rand spent by its customers into various transformation initiatives. Dell sees technology as an essential tool towards bridging the digital divide.

According to Stewart van Graan, GM of Dell Africa and MD of Dell South Africa, “As a team, we pride ourselves on focusing on real transformation within the communities we call home and are proud to be involved with the chosen organisations. We will work to ensure these initiatives deliver real value and real benefits, which create sustainable development and economic transformation in South Africa.”
ICT literacy is one of the biggest challenges facing the South African education system. This is due to limited ICT resources available in South African schools and often, where they are available, teachers don’t have the necessary knowledge to adequately educate pupils in the field of technology.

“Sci-Bono could not be more excited about the growing relationship we have with Dell. Their support for the centre will make a major difference to learning for hundreds of thousands of school children that visit us every year,” added David Kramer, CEO Sci-Bono

With the IT equipment from Dell, Sci-Bono will be establishing the Dell ICT Training centre at Sci-Bono. This centre, which has been recognised by the provincial Minister of Education, is the only facility available to all public school teachers and therefore will play an important role in ensuring that our teachers gain the essential ICT skills that are necessary for professional educators in today’s modern classroom.

Dell Provides Technology for the People PDF Print E-mail
Dell South Africa in collaboration with Dell’s global YouthConnect Program has donated technology to the value of R2 million to Humana People to People in South Africa (HPP-SA), a non-profit organization focused on creating opportunities for the underprivileged in rural communities.
Dell South Africa invests a percentage of every Rand spent by its customers into various transformation initiatives.  Dell uses technology as an essential tool towards bridging the digital divide.

The donation will be used to provide basic computer skills and academic training in mathematics, science and other related school subjects using computer generated learner programs. These projects are aimed at reducing the plight of young learners in marginalized township communities through academic education as well as HIV/Aids training and counseling. It will be implemented in three centers across Soweto and the Westrand District.

According to Stewart van Graan, GM of Dell Africa and MD of Dell South Africa, “As a team, we pride ourselves on focusing on real transformation within the communities we call home and are proud to be involved with the chosen organizations. We will work to ensure these initiatives deliver real value and real benefits, which create sustainable development and economic transformation in South Africa.”
Humana People to People in South Africa is founded on the idea of Solidarity Humanism. Their approach is comprehensive, grassroots-based and multi-disciplinary, with the individual as the organising force in creating routes out of poverty.
“The donation from Dell will make rural development possible for better job opportunities in townships and will assist in the fight against crime and abuse,” said Dorthe Jensen, Senior Partnership Officer, Humana People to People.
