This 2012 Year in Review report
back of the Dell Development Fund
(DDF) in South Africa captures our
commitment to put technology and
expertise to work, where it can do
the most good for people and the
communities we call home. This
is a business imperative we see as
a serious responsibility and a great
opportunity to make a difference.
The experience we have developed,
specifically over the last 10 years
of making a difference in South
Africa, informs us that a holistic
approach to giving is truly sustainable
when the financial investments we
make are thoughtfully integrated
with technology, expertise and
volunteerism. This strategic approach,
you will read, runs strongly through
the many investments we have
made in 2012.
At Dell, we encourage our leaders
and team members to leverage
their skills and knowledge through
volunteer opportunities in
underserved communities. As a result
they, in turn, develop new skills and a
deeper appreciation of societal needs.
Personally, as a leader who is
passionate about technology and
people, the most satisfying and
humbling experience is witnessing
our team members grow and thrive
as they connect, not just with
customers and partners, but also with
the need of building and transforming
South Africa.
We are actively building our team
members to lead significant lives
as they build the legacy of Dell and
themselves in lifting the hopes and
aspirations of those less fortunate
than themselves. John Andrew
Holmes said it best: “There is no
exercise better for the heart than
reaching down and lifting people up”.
I salute Dell team members, locally
and globally, for giving – and for
making a difference! We all know the
needs of our communities are great. I
encourage you to fuel your personal
and business success by continuing
to be significant in the lives of others.
